The old town of Limburg is one of the few undestroyed medieval town centres in Germany.

Follow old tracks through medieval alleys, past the "House of the Seven Vices", where the seven vices stare at the viewer, carved into the beam heads as crafty figures, on one of the oldest half-timbered houses in Germany.

Enjoy the scenic surroundings, the cultural sights and the untouched nature away from industrial areas and traffic noise. The constantly changing course of the river with gentle rapids and locks, some of which have to be operated by hand, invites you to take an interesting canoe tour.

The Limburg Diocesan Museum has the most important art collection between Cologne and Frankfurt am Main. In addition to the cathedrals treasure, the museum on the way to the cathedral has a permanent exhibition of testimonies and sacred works of art from 12 centuries. Paintings by Hans Holbein or rococo chalices are just as much a part of it as medieval bust reliquaries or a recent wafer baking tray. The most valuable exhibit is the „Dernbach Beweinung“, a group of figures from the period of the Soft Style.

In addition to the presentation of its own collections, the exhibition program includes three main themes: Highlights of art history, art of the present and artists of the region - art for the region. The works of the silhouette artist Ernst Moritz Engert are on permanent display. The extensive foundation is divided into thematic focuses and is shown in rotation.
